Code of
Conduct.
These standards exist to protect the training environment we are building together. They apply to all students, guests, and visitors without exception. If you have questions or concerns, speak with an instructor or staff member at any time.
Training in close contact requires a high standard of personal hygiene. All students are expected to shower before class, wear clean training gear to every session, and keep fingernails and toenails trimmed short and smooth. Long or jagged nails are a safety hazard to your training partners and will result in being asked to leave the mat until addressed. Gi and no-gi attire must be washed after every session — no exceptions.
Shoes and bare feet are never permitted on the mat at the same time. We recommend bringing a dedicated pair of indoor slippers or sandals to wear any time you step off the mat — do not wear the same footwear you used outside. This keeps the training surface clean and protects every person on it. Students who walk barefoot off the mat will be asked to clean the area before returning.
Hierarchy is built on the principle that everyone who walks through the door deserves to be here. Regardless of experience level, background, age, or ability — you are welcome on these mats. Discrimination, harassment, or language that marginalizes any individual will not be tolerated and may result in immediate removal from the academy.
We are committed to maintaining an environment where every person feels physically and emotionally safe. If at any point you feel uncomfortable with the behavior of another student or visitor, we encourage you to speak with an instructor or staff member immediately and privately. All concerns are taken seriously and handled with discretion.
Tap early, tap often, and respect the tap immediately. There is no submission worth an injury to your training partner. Be aware of size and experience differences when rolling. Adjust your intensity to match your partner, not your ego.
Visitors and observers are welcome with prior notice. All visitors must check in with a staff member upon arrival, remain in designated observer areas, and follow all academy rules while on the premises. Observers may not coach, interrupt class, or access the mat area without permission from the instructor.
Arrive on time and ready to train. If you arrive late, wait at the edge of the mat for acknowledgment from the instructor before joining. Mobile phones are not permitted on the mat. Listen when the instructor is speaking — side conversations disrupt the class for everyone.
Communicate any injuries or physical limitations to your instructor before class. Do not train through an illness that puts your partner at risk. If you are sick, stay home — this includes minor colds. The health of the entire academy depends on everyone being responsible.
Issues between students should be brought to the attention of the instructor or academy staff — not handled on the mat. We take concerns seriously and will address them with care and discretion.
Violations of this code may result in a warning, temporary suspension, or permanent removal from the academy depending on the nature and severity of the incident. The head instructor reserves final authority on all conduct decisions.
